I’ve been chanting mantras and praying rain.
And desperate glued to the news.
They’re saying most escaped and they’re living tents.
But I still haven’t heard from you.
And I’m worried here in Ashland
They ask me when will he return?
When he’s finished with his duties
And California gets done burning.

I am still in shock from hearing the news
How could do much be lost to the fires?
I am grieving for the families
Facing the ashes they can’t recognize

Family heirlooms, friends, and pets can’t be found.
Devastation wherever you turn
Sending comfort and compassion
And California please stop burning.

I am trying hard to be here now
Folks have been awfully kind.
I haven’t slept or eaten in days.
Their thoughtfulness eases my troubled mind

And there’s a flock of geese going south.
And a message with them I send.
There’s a fire here in Ashland
And only you can put it out and start it again.

And I miss you here in Ashland
Darling when will you return?
Oh, my mind’s on fire with imaginings.
California please stop burning.

I’m still chanting mantras and praying rain.
But I finally turned off the news.
There are others far worse off than me.
So I pretend to be strong when I’m asked about you.
But the real truth is I’m freaked out.
And I desperately need to hear word.
I know I’m selfish. And they need you.
Oh, California please stop burning.
